New Hythe,June 29th.

I walked from the Brookland car-park,following the lake round the eastern edge, past the sunken marsh and Abbey Meads, over the rail, through the east and west scrub and then back along the Mill stream path,by 0900 it was already very warm. Two Goldfinch and a Common Tern were noted in the Brookland area, along with 4 Cetti`s Warbler. At the sunken marsh a female Cuckoo was heard and one Turtle Dove was displaying in the area.Walking through the east scrub a mixed flock of Tits and Warblers was in evidence, about 25 birds in all.The west scrub produced 2 Turtle Dove,2 singing Willow Warbler,2 Jays and one G S Woodpecker.Nightingales were only in evidence by their churring and whistling calls (most if not all have young now).

1982 70 pairs of Sedge Warbler were located in TQ76,this included 25 pairs around the banks of Abbey Mead lake.
1981 One pair of Bearded Tit raised two broods at Burham marsh (only breeding record) the male bird was ringed at Tichfield Haven,Hampshire,as a young bird on the 27 07 1980.

Garden,June 27th.

The Great Tits fledged nineteen days after hatching, only one seen though.

June 17th,heard a Med Gull passing over the house at 0630 (Snodland)
1980 Cetti`s warbler, the first record of breeding for the area, when one pair bred at Eccles Island Creek.
